We are animators, and so we like zoetropes! It's a fun way to learn about the principles of moving image, and can be the first step to making your own animation. We made our first one when we were 7, and we loved it.

Full description

Zoetropes were an early form of animation, and are cool to make and watch. You spin a cylinder around, looking through tiny slits, and you can see animation happening right before your eyes as a sequence of images flash by creating movement.

This is a kit to help you make your own zoetrope. It contains all the materials you will need and simple, straight-forward instructions, plus a ready-made sequence (which might be a different animal from the one pictured). Once you get a bit clever, there's a blank template to make your own sequence, which you can draw or collage onto. All of this is packaged neatly together in an A4-sized sealed cellophane bag - you just need a bit of glue and some scissors, and possibly some adult help if you're a littl'un.
