Fin was inspired by the motorway service station sign of a crossed knife and fork, an iconic design which he thought would translate well to a trivet. Creating a piece that looks beautiful and yet is sturdy and practical was the most challenging things about producing their work, something Fin has accomplished admirably.

Full description

Made using a unique combination of locally sourced or reclaimed ash, oak, sycamore or beech wood to a unique design, the trivet is made using a 26 stage process. The piece is locked together using a half lap joint with a peg glued into it, making a very sturdy trivet measuring 21.5 cm from end to end and 2.5 cm deep. The trivet is dipped in hot linseed oil to finish and harden the wood to make it withstand extreme temperatures. It’s a beautiful, stand out piece of table furniture.

We’ve already had lots of pre-orders for this piece of work which is sure to become a classic.

(Because of the nature of the wood used each item will be unique and will differ in colour somewhat from the item displayed in the image.)

Commissioned by Folksy, made in Sheffield, November 2011
