Welcome to my Folksy shop in which you will find a variety of hand-stitched accessories for you and your home, many of which make lovely (and easy-to-post) gifts. I stitch in a variety of styles, combining traditional embroidery with other textile techniques such as felting, weaving, hand dyeing and silk painting. The re-purposing of vintage threads and fabrics, and the re-cycling of vintage linens and lace, are recurring themes and my listings include a small selection of vintage textile supplies.
Lace, bonded to vintage Laura Ashley fabric, and embellished with hand embroidery, gives a delicately pretty appearance to the wings of this beautiful butterfly.
The wings, each separately created, are cut from a vintage, floral, Laura Ashley fabric. They are reinforced with iron-on interfacing. Lace, bonded is bonded to the fabric. The wings are hand embroidered with a trailing rose pattern - the colors of the roses chosen to match the fabric peeping through the lace. The body of the butterfly is a short length of hand made cord - the threads carefully chosen to match the fabric and embroidery. The cord is knotted to form the head and each of the antennae is a short plait, knotted at the end.
The back of each wing is neatened, after the embroidery, by a further bonded layer of the same floral fabric. A brooch pin is securely stitched in place.
width (measured from tip to tip on upper wings) - 6.5cm approx
Length of body (excluding antenna) - 4.5 cm approx.
