Full description
A small mending kit containing four spools of thread, four buttons, three dressmaking pins and three safety pins.
A piece of patchwork, embellished with hand embroidery using metallic threads and embroidery silks, is reinforced with heavy interfacing to help keep the cylindrical shape and reduce the risk of the needles and pins protruding through. The spools are held in place by a tasseled cord, threaded through the ends of the cylinder, which can be removed to replenish the thread. The roll closes with a button and ribbon 'twists'.
This kit is based on a 'hussif' - a contraction of 'house-wife', which my father carried as part of his kit during World War II. He used it for the remainder of his life when sewing on buttons etc. His original was made in a heavy khaki coloured canvas! This version is also practical - but much prettier!
A beautiful gift to be treasured, or just treat yourself!
