After more than ten years of hand-painting these jute bags I have decided to change my career and close my Folksy shop after Christmas. These are the last few bags that I have in stock and I am hoping that you will find something you like.

Full description

I sell individually designed and hand-painted, environmentally friendly jute shopping bags. I design and cut the stencil myself and have extended my catalogue to more than sixty images ranging from badgers to budgerigars, sheep to schnauzers and pigs to puffins. Because I paint each one individually, they are never identical and may differ slightly from the one pictured.

After creating designs for larger bags I then discovered these lovely little jute bags which are ideal for children as they are light and strong and stand up unaided. But I found that adults love them too because they are great for storing craft items like embroidery silks or buttons. I paint a whole new set of designs to fit the smaller print space and feature some of the animals and insects that are likely to be seen and loved by children but also by adults too.

The little jute bag measures 20cms x 20cms x 14cms (depth).

About Jute

Jute is a natural based vegetable fibre composed of cellulose and a typical jute bag has a lifespan in excess of 1,000 plastic bags. Jute is a very sustainable crop and is totally biodegradable.

The best bags I could find

There are a number of companies who supply cheaper jute bags but I chose to buy mine from a company who have awards for their ethical and environmental standards. The bags have ‘climate neutral’ status, are shipped rather air freighted and are fairly traded.

Postage and packing

I add about 15p to postage costs to cover packaging. I try to keep my use of plastic to a minimum in my packaging, unless the bag is being posted abroad, and where I think it needs extra protection.
