Full description
Inside this solid glass handle I've put two little glass jellyfish! They are swimming at the top of the glass, and bellow I've put a few light coils of a brown-green to suggest seaweed. At the very bottom there is a dome of rich blue glass, which has lots of different tones in it, and when looked down through the top it makes it look like they are swimming against a deep sea background!
The glass is tough borosilicate glass (better know by the 'Pyrex' trade name), the colours often reflect the ambient light differently, and have deep rich colours that seem to change depending on the light. The clear glass I have used in this is high grade borosilicate glass normally used to make laboratory equipment! It has been fully annealed in a microprocessor controlled kiln to improve toughness.
The glass part of the handle is about 35mm long, and about 28mm (just over an inch) at the widest point. Overall it stands about 100mm tall (just under 4inches.) The base is flattened so it can stand to dry.
This unusual shaving brush has a real badger hair brush, which is renown as the best, toughest, and longest wearing type of brush for a good old fashioned shave.
The handle has been entirely hand shaped by melting glass directly inside a propane/oxygen flame, and then rolling, prodding and poking it into shape! It means that every piece of glass I make is truly unique and a one off.
