Every piece begins with the wood. This sculpture started as a rugged, bark-covered log of English Laburnum. The true beauty of this timber is hidden deep within—a secret contrast between the pale, golden sapwood and the dark, chocolate-toned heartwood that only reveals itself once the carving begins.
Finding the Flow
Over 12 hours of dedicated carving, the form was shaped to find a hidden rhythm. By piercing the center with a smooth, organic void, I wanted to give the heavy timber a sense of weightlessness. This central opening allows the eye to travel through the sculpture, discovering how the grain wraps around the curves like flowing water.

Hand-carved from Laburnum this piece highlights the dialogue between the raw material and the artist's hand. The form is designed to invite the eye to follow its curves, revealing the intricate grain patterns and natural flicker of the wood's internal character
