Made from layers of fabric including hand-dyed egyptian cotton and silks using applique and free machine embroidery
This textile piece is a richly decorative, three-dimensional sculptural container composed of a rounded vessel and a separate, domed lid. The form feels almost organic—like a seed pod or exotic bloom—softly structured yet dimensional, with gently faceted sides that give it volume and presence.
The surface is alive with free machine embroidery and appliqué, creating a dense, tactile skin. Layers of fabric are stitched and built up into intricate botanical motifs—radiating flowers, spirals, and petal-like shapes—each one outlined and emphasized with energetic, free-flowing stitch work.
The stitching itself becomes part of the drawing, adding movement and rhythm across the form.
Colour is central to its impact: jewel-like tones—sapphire blues, emerald greens, ruby reds, and flashes of gold and turquoise—shift across the surface, giving the piece a luminous, almost iridescent quality. The palette enhances the sense of richness and depth, with contrasting hues defining each floral element.
The separate lid echoes the vessel’s language, rising into a soft peak and adorned with similar embroidered floral patterns. A delicate cord at the top adds a finishing detail, both functional and ornamental, reinforcing the handcrafted
