All of my yarns on Folksy are handmade in India by groups of women I work closely with. Each yarn is spun entirely by hand in their own backyards and villages, and every skein is individually hand-dyed.
For these women, spinning and yarn-making is their sole source of income in rural communities. By choosing these planet-conscious yarns, you are helping them build sustainable livelihoods, support their families, send their children to school, and avoid the need to migrate to city slums in search of work. This work allows them to earn a living while remaining in their own homes and communities.

Full description
This is a beautiful quality of sari silk ribbon, which has been hand tie dyed in earthy botanical plant shades. Super soft pure silk waste fabric sewn end to end to form a planet friendly recycled silk ribbon yarn. Suitable for knitting, crochet, weaving, jewellery making and arts and crafts.
Sari silk ribbon is a by product of silk sari manufacturing in India. These yarns are handmade and hand dyed by women's co-operatives in rural India from silk that would otherwise be destroyed and sent to landfill. Pure silk waste is taken and made into these magical yarns.
I buy these yarns for my own textile art directly from women's co-operatives and have been doing so for many many years. I have even helped sew it in their homes. It still amazes me.
1 x 10 metre skein. The colourway is truly magical!
