handmade mixed media textile art butterfly cottage core piece
The frame is roughly 18 by 18 cms and depth 3cm
I have created this being inspired by the vintage motif of a speckled wood butterfly on a playing card used within the piece. Forming a textural woodland piece around the butterfly.
I have hand painted the base fabric with silver & gold metallic accent patterns. As well as fabric painting the hand painted yellow pansies.
hand embroidered flowers, leaves and woodland inspired textures through the manipulation of organzas and cotton scrim to create a more dimensional look. Going forward and using the vintage beads within the fore ground to create those variations in texture.
The piece features elements extracted out of vintage playing cards such as ‘speckled beauty’ the name of the butterfly featured on the piece, layer to it through the use of gesso.
The whole piece has been whip stitched to a piece of white felt fabric as well as being mounted in a white shadow frame. The whole piece itself is also removable.
For this piece I have created a one of a kind frame.
creating a white frame base along with hand moulded flowers out of clay that have been moulded to the corners of the frame linking with the flowers seen in the textile artwork.
I have hand painted the whole frame using acrylics. Painting it in a white and adding a glistening aspect through the metallic acrylic.
