The piece was inspired by calm nights at sea: the vast, empty horizon; the fathomless depth below; the starlit mantle above; and the only sounds — the chime of rigging and the displacement of water as the bow cuts through it. The lighthouse guides them past the dangerous waters and the yachts continue on their lonely night passage.

Items are usually dispatched sooner where possible, but longer dispatch times are set to allow for rural postal schedules. Royal Mail tracked 48 will be the service used.

You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.

Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.

Full description

Night Passage grew from colours poured and layered, then left to find their own form. Onto this, brushed work was added to shape the lighthouse, yachts, and finer details.

The original artwork uses metallic pigments. On the mug these translate into subtle depth and soft highlights, with the occasional glint in the right light — not a full metallic or iridescent sheen. The image shifts gently between daylight and softer, evening light.

This ceramic mug is printed using a dye sublimation process by Doricmor (Edinburgh), allowing the image to wrap smoothly around the surface.

The mug has a satisfying weight and comfortable feel and is one I use daily.
