Full description
A beautiful, unique miniature bowl or shallow dish. Whether viewed from above or from the side, the simplicity of the curves shows off the natural beauty of the woods used.
The material is Spalted Beech which has distinctive, irregular darker grain patterns (resulting from the natural salting process). All colours are those found naturally occurring in the wood.
Spalted Beech is one of my favourite woods because of its dark, irregular spalting lines which contrast with the mid brown tones of the rest of the wood. The spalting process is completely natural and occurs if the temperature and humidity are just right when the tree is first felled, or falls naturally. Microbes then start to attack the sugars in the wood until it dries out leaving behind a unique pattern of dark lines in the grain.
This bowl has been finish to a satin sheen using several applications an acrylic based polish then a final coat of wax polish to protect it from fingermarks and is intended as a decorative item and is not suitable for holding food.
An excellent gift for a loved one or for a special occasion.
