Charlie is a tidy little Jack Russell who likes things just so: boots brushed, velvet cuffs turned, and three buttons polished till they wink. Every morning he walks the lanes to the village green.
Under his arm he keeps a lucky old penny. He found it years ago under the sweet chestnut tree. Since then, whenever Charlie carries the penny, good things tend to happen—lost gloves turn up, buses arrive as he reaches the stop, and people remember their umbrellas.
He wears his royal-blue coat and green waistcoat whenever there’s something worth doing, “Courage,” he says, patting the penny. “We’ll borrow a bit of luck and make our own.”
