Amazonite was given its name after the river in South America due to an abundance of the stone found in Brazil, although it’s been located in many other areas worldwide (the stones used here are from Mozambique and India). It’s been used for thousands of years for trinkets, amulets and also for writing tablets. It was originally thought that its blue colour was linked to copper however research has found that it’s actually due to small traces of lead and water in its chemical composition. Amazonite is often associated with harmony and communication, making it a ‘peacemaker’ stone.

Spinel is an aluminium magnesium oxide mineral that can be found in a variety of different colours, as well as colourless. It was first recorded in 1779 by J Demeste, and its name comes from the Latin word ‘spinella’ meaning ‘little thorn’. Spinel is often thought to be a stone that helps with the overall flow of human energy, compassion and empathy.
