Tanzanite is of course named after Tanzania, which is to date the only place where this stone can be found. A local legend states that its blue colour is the result of a powerful lightning storm that occured around 30 years before the stone was first discovered - the lightning strikes were enough to start fires so widespread that they heated the Earth's surface enough to change the colour of the stone within it. Tanzanite is thought to encourage the letting go of past issues, arguments, disagreements or other old sources of negativity.

Zigzags in art can apparently symbolise energy, movement or chaos and they do crop up quite a lot in my jewellery designs as to me they represent the non linear way my mind works (who wants to go from A straight to B anyway?!) For this beautiful pendant, I've used a white cultured freshwater pearl with a sterling silver wirework zigzag design, leading to a 3mm faceted tanzanite stone. It's suspended on a 1mm sterling silver curb chain, with silver extender, tiny zircon stone and a matching tanzanite which echoes the central design.

Chain length is 19ins with 1.5ins extender, the pearl pendant itself measures 0.5 x 1.5ins
