Murano glass is handmade on the island of Murano within the Venetian lagoon in Italy. The Murano glass artisans are regarded worldwide as the masters of their art. It is also known as Venetian glass.
Heated glass is hand shaped, then rolled in 24K gold foil while still soft until entirely coated.
Red glass is then added and shaped around the gold foil centre to form the final heart.
The result is almost magical - a bright, vibrant intense colour that seems to glow from within.
Copper really brings out the colour.

This striking necklace features a 14mm Rubino gold foil Murano glass heart with copper round beads and a 3x10mm copper tube suspended from a copper bail.
It is set between 6mm smooth and frosted black Onyx beads and copper rounds and tubes.
This beautiful Murano glass heart is handmade on the island of Murano within the Venetian lagoon in Italy. The Murano glass artisans are regarded worldwide as the masters of their art. The glass core of the bead is wrapped with 24K gold foil, then encased in glass and shaped to the finished size,
The necklace graduates to 4mm faceted Onyx beads for a subtle glint, then to 4mm smooth and frosted Onyx, all highlighted with more copper beads.
The necklace fastens with a simple copper toggle clasp.
The warmth of the copper brings out the rich colour of the glass and adds shine to the black Onyx.
Handmade in my home workshop here in Devon in the UK, this would make a very special gift for a birthday, anniversary, Christmas, Valentine's day, Mother's Day or as a treat for yourself.
This necklace measures approximately 18 inches (45.5cm), excluding the pendant, while the pendant measures 2 inches (5cm) from the top of the bail to the tip.
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
