This painting of Enniskillen is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s tale The Happy Prince.
It’s believed that Oscar Wilde got the inspiration for the prince from Cole’s Monument in Enniskillen. He spent 7 years in Enniskillen at Portora School where he could see the monument from his dormitory window.
The view of the painting is from the top of Cole’s Monument so it is in the perspective of the Happy Prince. It’s composed from all my own reference photos. I went up Cole’s Monument last September, the views are absolutely stunning and I took loads of photos!
In the tale a swallow helped the prince so it was such a joy to be able to include one of my favourite birds in this piece.
