My husband is a retired merchant seaman whose travels inspired me to make these ships.
I've been making map art sailboats for 15 years. Many have sold at the national sailing academy on Portland in Dorset, and others can be found in various venues across Dorset (details on my website driftwoodfish.co.uk).
I once made a batch of 350 small ships for a subscription box company in the United States which took me a fair while!
I create my sailboats in my driftwood workshop / studio at my home in Weymouth, Dorset.
While I'm making the sails it's fun spotting some of the many shipwrecks and ancient names for areas of the sea around Britain - Mouse Channel, Knock John, Shell Flat, Shivering Sands - the list goes on!

Full description
Driftwood sailboat with authentic nautical map sail, from Ship to Shore on Folksy. Other areas are available. The perfect gift for sailors, beachcombers and anyone who loves the sea (or maps!).
This particular ornamental driftwood sailboat is 14 inches high (35cm) and has a driftwood plinth and a shaped driftwood ship body. At 3.5 inches (9cm) deep the plinth is narrow enough to sit on a standard shelf.
The map sail shows areas of Margate and Broadstairs in Kent, and Botany Bay beach.
Sails are made from authentic repurposed nautical maps which have been used on voyages around the British Isles, and some may have small handwritten annotations: please check the images to view.
All my ships have a paper tag with a short description. The sails have a gently rippled effect, as if blowing in the wind.
Please message me if you require an area that you don't see in the Ship to Shore shop (making to order costs exactly the same). If you are looking for a specific part of the coast I have maps of other coastal areas around the British Isles and the French and Dutch coastlines.
Orders are carefully packaged in a cardboard box with recycled / reused inner packaging and sent via Royal Mail's Tracked 48 service. Additional ships have no extra postage charge, regardless of the number ordered.
Thank you for coming aboard to view! - Rachel
