This was a painting I did during the summer to celebrate everything seaside related and one of my favourite mythical creatures: mermaids. It takes some inspiration from Ariel and the imagery of underwater creatures and plants that I loved as a child, with a slightly darker twist of including skulls and bones from the seafarers that mermaids and sirens traditionally prey on in mythology.

Full description
This A4 print uses 300 gsm matte card and features my painting Mermaid's Lair, also available as a greetings card with a silk finish.
The painting used mainly acrylic paint but also various water soluble wax pastels and markers as I enjoy using lots of different media when creating art. It depicts an underwater scene where a mermaid, surrounded by other sea creatures, inspects some of the treasures that she has obtained from shipwrecks. Bones and skulls from unfortunate seafarers litter her lair; it is a whimsical but slightly dark envisioning of classic folklore with a nod to the classic The Little Mermaid.
