Amazonite was given its name after the river in South America due to an abundance of the stone found in Brazil, although it’s been located in many other areas worldwide. It was originally thought that its blue colour was linked to copper however research has found that it’s actually due to small traces of lead and water in its chemical composition. Amazonite is often associated with harmony and communication, making it a ‘peacemaker’ stone.
Aquamarine is a pale blue variety of beryl and has been used for jewellery and ornaments for thousands of years, and can be found in Brazil, parts of Africa, Australia and the US. The stone is often thought to help support mental clarity, ideas and communication. Its name actually originates from the Latin for 'sea water' and the stone is historically linked to the ocean as ancient mariners believed that it could calm waves and help protect them from harm at sea.
