A really unusual piece of art created whlsy studying at Central St martin's College of Art and Design in London. A daytrip to Brighton allowed me to take a guided tour on the now almost-gone West Pier, which was laying derelict at the time in 1999. A few years later after discovering encaustic wax art as an unusual medium, I had photographs printed up and used the wax over the top creating this eerie effect. There is also some text transfer top left

Full description
A striking and one-of-a-kind artwork combining photography and encaustic techniques. The base is an original photograph of Brighton’s West Pier, captured in 1999 during a guided tour. Once a grand landmark, the pier had closed in 1975 and was left to fall into disrepair. Today, it exists only as a skeletal framework, having suffered fire and the relentless erosion of the sea.
Layered over the photograph is a translucent veil of coloured beeswax, carefully melted and shaped with an iron to create depth, texture, and atmosphere. Subtle imprinted text in the upper left corner adds an additional dimension, enhancing the haunting, dreamlike quality of the piece.
An evocative and rare work that captures both the history and the ghostly beauty of Brighton’s lost pier. Mounted and framed, signed by the artist. The art itself is approximately A3 size.
