I captured this black and white photograph of Skegness Pier to celebrate one of Lincolnshire’s most iconic Victorian seaside landmarks. Opened in June 1881 and once stretching over 560 m, Skegness Pier was one of the longest piers in England and quickly became a focal point for seaside leisure, concert halls, steamboat trips and holiday fun as rail travel opened up coastal escapes in the late 19th century. Over the decades, the pier has weathered storms, wartime closures and structural change — most notably the loss of much of its original length in a powerful 1978 storm — yet it remains a beloved symbol of traditional British seaside culture.
