I enjoy exploring new ways of framing my original artwork, especially incorporating items that would otherwise end up in land fill.

Full description
I am known for my love of fly agaric toadstools (obsessed with them since I was a child) but putting a snail in a painting has been a long time coming. For this diorama I decided to feature a snail alongside the toadstools and to frame them in this lovely, upcycled vintage clock case. I called her Mavis while I was painting her and it seems reasonable to name her in the title - I love that she is nestled in her own little mossy world.
The metal clock case has been thoroughly cleaned. The glass is the original glass. All the paper and card parts that make up the toadstools, snail and moss are hand painted by me using Schmincke Horadam Professional Watercolours on Khadi handmade, acid free, cotton rag paper, 210gsm. All the gluing of paper to paper was done using LineCo neutral pH adhesive. The glass has been refitted and is now held in place using mouldable adhesive (as used by model makers). The clock was missing a foot, so I used a (real, not glass) carnelian bead and a silver jewellery finding to fix it in place, it works perfectly. The clock case being an upcycled item means that it does show age related wear and tear.
