I've really enjoyed getting into the summer vibes this year, because of physical restrictions, by creating nautical, seaside inspired arts and crafts. I wanted to make a detailed painting capturing my childhood fascination with mermaids and the sea (and paying homage to The Little Mermaid, of which I loved the bright, magical graphics), but with a slightly darker twist to acknowledge the origins of mermaid lore. I also wanted to create a busy scene complete with all the sea creatures and coral that I have always been fascinated by.

Full description
This A5 sized greetings card features a print of my painting Mermaid's Lair. It features a mermaid (with more than a passing nod to Ariel) examining the skull of one of her victims in the comfort of her lair, surrounded by treasures from doomed ships and various sea creatures. An octopus plays with a discarded ship's wheel while a school of fish and jellyfish can be seen nearby. The light from the surface shines through the water and more bones from unfortunate sailors nearby the rock on which the mermaid relaxes.
An A5 envelope is included and this can either be given as a greetings card (blank for your own message) or kept as an art print. The original painting was done with mixed media including acrylic paints, soluble wax pastels, various pens and markers.
