I was watching a tv programme that featured a glacier and looking at the picture on my screen I was struck at how the colours, shape and flow of a glacier might be transformed into a batt and be an interesting experiment in colour blending using my drum carder. It was a fun to see the icy glacier colours reflected in the batt both on the wheel and when the batt is laid out. Of course you can see my studio quality control assistant in the photos. Although she has two beds in the studio area, she often opts to lie under my feet when I am working!

Fibres: Polwarth Wool, Merino Wool, Alpaca Fibre, Mulberry Silk, Silk Noil, Angelina.
Colours: Sea Green, Turquoise, White, Silver.
Weight: 51g - 52g (1.7oz - 1.8oz) approx. Batt is labelled with weight.
Batt Dimensions: 30.5cm x 56cm (12" x 22" ) approx.
Uses: Spinning, Wet Felting, Needle Felting, Art Embellishment for Textile work. NB: Please be aware that batts containing recycled Sari Silk should be washed in COLD WATER ONLY as warm water causes the dyes to bleed.
Each batt is hand carded, on a Drum Carder. I incorporate lots of Silk and Sparkle fibres to make my batts extra special. Easy to spin, either directly from the batt or can be pre-drafted through a Diz if preferred. Sparkling Glacier has been built up over 3 layers. Each layer contains all the fibres used so there is lots of Silk and Sparkle running through each batt. Along with Mulberry Silk I have added Silk Noil which will give a textured feel rather than a smooth finish. The batt is folded and packed in a cellophane bag for ease of posting. Up to two batts are sent in an environmentally friendly mailing bag, heavier batts are boxed.
Items from the Silk Spinner's Studio are made in a cigarette smoke free home. I am usually listening to music or podcasts when working, with my beautiful Deerhound bedside me.
