Full description
For many years I have been on the lookout for old saws at boot sales and sometimes in charity shops. Often the blades are beyond saving and go into the recycling but the handles are a thing of beauty, with their beautifully crafted sculptural shapes. Originally I chose to leave the handles as found, all different colours, scuffed and often paint-splattered, but they just looked too messy, and detracted from the shape of the wood. So I stripped and sanded and stained to create something slightly less authentic but prettier (in my eyes). The handles are beech and are securely screwed and glued to the backboards which are glued oak panels, originally the top of an extendable oak table, finished in clear wax.
