I made some bowls with different woods glued together a few years ago and decided to saw through the left overs and they seemed ideal to make a decorated wing for a plane, so it seemed sensible to glue the slithers to a piece of plywood for strength and voila a nice bi plane. (I almost made them into a hanging mobile but it seems a bit too big for that?)

a plane made with a hook to hang it...it has wheels and a propellor that spin, so would make a nice toy for a child, though probably not for under 36 months
