My background is in Graphic Design and although I'm now retired I still enjoy the creative process. A lot of my work features birds and flowers and I particularly love combining different materials and patterns to create colourful, one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces.

Full description
This unique mixed media artwork would make a lovely, lasting gift for a flower-loving friend or relative. Or treat yourself and add a pop of colour to your own home with this indoor garden!
The artwork is housed in an unusual, glass-fronted, vintage thimble rack which has a pretty scalloped top. I don't normally cultivate plants under glass, but in these thirty compartments I've created an eclectic mix of botanical-themed items including vintage buttons, flower-shaped beads and jewellery findings, fabric, embroidery, polymer clay tiles which I've debossed and painted and a couple of butterfly postage stamps.
Some of the backgrounds have been painted with acrylics and I've also used paper from gelli-plate prints and decorative papers from old books.
The thimble rack is 7 x 10 inches and the individual compartments are 29 x 31mm. The glass door is secured with a pretty metal catch at the side. The box is free-standing and there are hanging hooks on the back.
It wasn't easy photographing it because of the reflections in the glass so I've taken a few with the door open so you can see the items in close-up.
