Hi and welcome to The Old Button Supplies, where I sell stunning vintage, preloved and new fabrics and haberdashery.
I also have another shop on Folksy - The Old Button Sews - selling beautiful gifts designed and sewn by me, together with some lovely sew it yourself craft kits.
I originally bought this fabric from an Irish supplier to recreate traditional shifts for a medieval re-enactment society. However, the shade and weave was too delicate - medieval society had very strict sumptuary laws defining the colour and quality of clothing worn by differing ranks, and the group wanted to stay true to these.

Full description
Gorgeous Irish linen fabric with a lovely handle and a soft sheen. In an off-white, almost ivory, shade, this is this is the background fabric I use in my embroidery kits, and is a great choice for pairing with my vintage style transfer motifs.
Tightly woven and regular, and with minimal slubs, this linen is ideal for freeform hand embroidery - both traditional and modern. The holes are small and too close together for counted stitches like blackwork or cross stitch, however, it would make a lovely background for experimental forms of embroidery or textile art by hand or machine, and for slow stitching.
12 inches square (30 by 30 cm approx). This is good for 8-10 inch hoops depending on the overhang you prefer.
I also sell other sizes - see my listings.
It has been cut with a rotary blade for neat edges but you may want to hem or cut it with pinking shears it before stitching to prevent fraying. Some pieces may have the original dark green selvedge edging - I will add a little extra to that side.
100% linen, medium weight.
This fabric is a little see-through - see photo 5 where it is held against the light
Depending on your project you may want to use a backing fabric to make it more opaque or give additional stability - you can use suitable fabric you already have but I have included some as optional extras.
PLEASE NOTE - the embroidery hoop pictured is not included, but can be purchased from my shop in some sizes.
