This piece is inspired by Japanese culture and Japanese mythology. I also live in the forest off-grid, so I have a profound experience of how the ancient people lived on the land.

Full description
This painting is one in a series of 4 watercolour portraits of the Shinto Sun Goddess, Amaterasu. That series is part of a larger work exploring Japanese culture and art.
My style communicates ancient culture. I play between the abstract and figurative.
Amaterasu symbolises a great harvest. So she's that warm sunshine within each of us. The sense that all is well, and the precursor to an abundant life.
I live in the forest, and see the way nature flows. It's magical. So I have a deep connection to the ancient world, and a direct experience of how celestial events affect us.
Deep within the forest, there is a holy well. I paint all my paintings using the holy water from that well. Each brushstroke enchants the watercolour, bringing the symbolism to life.
This is the original watercolour painting on 5.8-inch by 8.3-inch (14.8 cm by 21 cm) thick 300 gsm watercolour paper. The watercolour painting comes unframed and unmounted.
