I discovered the Durham and Northumberland coast during a long weekend trip to the North-East of England and the Scottish borders.
At a craft fair, a fellow crafter recommended the area to me and talked about a lovely beach in County Durham, where pieces of glass polished by the sea and sand are brought in by the tide. In their heyday (19th and 20th centuries), the world renowned local glass making factories used to dispose of their waste glass in the North Sea.
Most of this glass is green, lots is clear, some is amber and occasionally, you may find a blue or red piece... these are very rare finds !
I like the purity of glass and the idea that the sea is giving back to us glass that it has weathered over the years, tiny portions of useful and wonderful objects made by local people.
This is a custom-made item and cannot be returned unless faulty.

Full description
This Mother's Day card is designed and made in Staffordshire, with sea glass collected on the beaches of the North East of England.
The design comprises dainty and delicate flowers made of sea glass : The daisies have 3 clear glass petals and an amber heart ; the meadow flowers have 4 green anthers.
The Happy Mother's Day message is handwritten in the stems in green fine liner, with a few petals painted in green watercolour.
All glass parts are carefully glued on the white card.
The 12.5 x 12.5 cm card is made in a high quality 300gsm white cardstock, and comes with a matching envelope.
The card and envelope are presented in a clear cellophane wallet lined with bubble wrap to protect the glass elements.
This item is sent in a cardboard backed envelope to ensure it arrives in its original perfect condition.
Because of the thickness of the card and glass, this item is posted as a large letter.
