Living so close to the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline, I have been collecting pieces of driftwood for some time hoping to create beautiful sculptural pieces with them. Having learned the technique of creating realistic bronzes with wire, plaster and clay, I realised I had found the perfect combination of natural, durable materials to create stunning pieces for the home inspired by my love of nature. The hare is particularly important to me as it is the symbol of my business and has so much spiritual meaning especially in relation to rebirth, renewal and transformation. This is a theme very close to my heart after surviving cancer and finding a new direction in life where I can take my love of creativity to new and exciting places.
Safety information
This sculpture is made using natural driftwood which has been painted with water-based varnish. The hare is painted with water-based acrylic paint and gold gilding wax and it is attached using a non-toxic, water-based adhesive. The wire flowers are made with coloured aluminium wire and occasionally there may be a sharp end point although all efforts have been made to eliminate this risk. The air dried clay flowers are painted with water-based acrylic paint and gold gilding wax. All materials are considered non-toxic but this sculpture is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children.

Full description
This sculpture of a sitting hare is inspired by my love of the hare as a symbol of rebirth and transformation, a notion that is particularly relevant to me at this stage of my life. It is crafted using a piece of driftwood found on my local beach near Cardigan in Ceredigion, as well as wire, plaster and clay.
Dimensions: Max Width 32cm/Max Height 21cm/Max Depth 14cm
The driftwood has been prepared during a process of soaking, drying, sanding, and lastly, the application of a clear matt finish varnish to bring out the natural grain and colour of the wood as well as giving the sculpture a more durable finish.
The hare was created by crafting a handmade wire armature with overlaid aluminium foil, ModRoc plaster bandage and Cassini's sculptural plaster that provides a sound surface. A high quality artist's acrylic paint was then applied before finally finishing with gilding wax to create a realistic bronze effect that will not fade.
The poppies are handcrafted individually with air drying clay that is hand dipped in clay hardener before being painted with artist's acrylic and finished with gilding wax for the same bronze finish as the hare. The wire flowers and dragonfly are made from bronze and gold coloured aluminium wire.
All of the elements are arranged and attached to the driftwood to form a pleasing sculpture that will look wonderful on any surface in your home where natural or lamplight emphasises the contours and textures across the piece.
