Full description
A novelty sewing box in the shape of an old-fashioned skep (beehive). The skep comprises three stacking box compartments, a lid which can be turned upside down and used as a bowl, a matching pin cushion and hard-backed needle case. Although designed as a sewing box, the beehive is also suitable for jewellery or as a general storage box.
HABERDASHERY IS NOT INCLUDED - this is only shown for scale.
This box was designed and handmade by me, using the same technique used for making medieval skeps. The outside of the beehive is woven from raffia and twine and decorated with miniature wooden bees. Each section is lined with a cream floral print cotton fabric with gold detail. The pin cushion and needle case are made using the same floral fabric, and the latter has two needle ‘pages’ made from 100% wool felt.
The beehive is approximately 27cm high, 22cm wide and 22cm deep.
The internal diameters of the boxes are approximately 15, 18 and 15cm.
The volume of the three boxes is approximately 4 litres (1.2, 1.7 and 1.1l).
GB delivery is by Royal Mail Tracked 48. Delivery to other countries is by Royal Mail International Tracked.
