After a big storm not sure which year 2016 i think which brought down many elm trees where i live all of which missed the house my late father and me set about cutting them in to planks with a handmade sawmill this was no easy task but a labour of love the joy of seeing the insides of 300 year old trees was worth the toils while it was seasoning he worked bits on lathe and band saw and designs for furniture he had always wanted to make and i bought a small cnc machine to fashion decorations for our harp making
business this is one first pieces i designed with it in late 2021 my father left this problem to me since then i have fought with the wood piles and tried to realize some of our many ideas from avant-garde shelves to making windows from old black cab glass and ash frames to cnc Celtic belts and wooden jewelry pieces inlaying spalted woods rocking glass tables some of which i will be offering for sale as the woodpile is demanding a new band saw blade

A piece of wood art in wych elm as per pics fairly abstract in design
Created in 2021 to try and depict the two people and thier fascination at cutting open fallen trees and revealing the grain in spite of the weather
The piece measures 1 foot by 5 inch
It one my favourite design to boot and always makes me smile
Wych elm is a lovely hardwood which i find myself left with a large pile of pity the the man whos fascination inspired it bowed out.
