Full description

I have been fascinated with the Mahavidyas for many years now. Also known as "The Ten Wisdom Goddesses" or "The Ten Objects of Transcendental Knowledge", it is an ancient Indian system for defining the functions of creation as aspects of the Great Goddess.

Tara is more familiar in her Tibetan Buddhist guise, but in fact she was revered by Hindus as well. The texts even say the best way to worship her is the "Chinese" (Buddhist) way.

Tara means "star'. In the Mahavidyas she is the second manifestation of the Goddess who guides, leads and supports the devotee in their way back to fulfilment. Though fierce and wrathful in appearance, she has infinite compassion. Her energy is that of a young star, radiant and thirsty for the experience of Creation.

The image was created from paintings of the symbols I created to represent the energy of each Mahavidya superimposed and layered many times.

Each image is designed to be a focus for contemplation. This means that they benefit from prolonged, relaxed gazing where different levels of colour and image come to the attention in an unfolding, dynamic manner.

"Tara" is a giclee print, signed and titled.

Printed on A3 size, 308gm archive photo rag paper (image approx. 11x15.5 inches). Highest quality inkjet imaging.

All prints are sent in postal tubes by "Special DeliveryInternational Signed for" to ensure safe and fast delivery.
