I am interested in the early history of tarot, and in alternative representations of the ideas symbolised in the cards. My original print run of The Great Parade tarot sold out - for this second edition I have redrawn some of the pip cards with fancier pips and floral decorations, and also used a different approach to colouring the cards.

Full description

The Great Parade tarot by Ian Cumpstey, second edition (2024)

A pack of 78 tarot cards with the imagery of early Italian tarot: The appearance of the cards is similar to Marseille woodcut tarots. But the imagery of the trump cards in The Great Parade broadly follows the Bolognese tarocchini pattern (a tarot design dating back at least as far as 1500), and there are often differences from the more familiar Marseille representations. The Great Parade is also influenced by other early Italian tarot designs.

The cards are text-free, so the cards work by visual recognition only - the clear imagery is straightforward to interpret.

The linework for the cards was drawn by hand with pen and ink at the same size as the final printed cards.

The cards are 62 x 100 mm, printed on smooth black-core playing-card stock by Ivory Graphics (England). The cards are delivered in a custom printed tuck box.
