I try to use reclaimed or sustainable materials in everything I make. The Sapele I used to make this box is no exception.
Earlier in the year I was asked to make some alterations to a 40 year old boat based on the Yorkshire coast. Part of the alteration required removing the upper part of the gunwale. It was covered in fibreglass, but after cutting it away I saw it was made from hardwood. After cleaning all the fibre glass off, I was delighted to see that it was a stunning piece of Sapele. So it's not just a beautiful item, it also has a nautical history!

Full description
This beautiful handmade box is made from reclaimed Sapele. It features mitred corners reinforced with contrasting English Sycamore dovetailed splines.
The lid is hinged with discrete solid brass hinges which have an integrated stop to hold the lid open at a 90 degrees.
The lift out tray and box itself both have a luxurious velvet lining on the base.
The dimensions of the box are 30cm wide x 20cm deep x 10cm high
The perfect place to keep jewellery or treasured keepsakes, it would make an absolutely beautiful gift.
