I engraved the image onto the end grain piece of Lemonwood; a very hard wood favoured by wood engravers. The design has been carved by hand using very sharp, old fashioned tools called spitstickers, scorpers and gravers. This method of printing dates back centuries to Thomas Bewick. Each tool produces a different mark on the block, because the wood is so hard it is possible to make very tiny detailed marks. Once the mark has been made it cannot be unmade, making this a beautiful but unforgiving process. After carefully proofing an edition of 30 prints was made. The image size is 3 ins by 2 ins printed in black ink, signed and numbered.
