Full description
This item can only be shipped within the UK!
This sculpture is made from paper mache and air dry clay, then coated with black primer and finally painted with several coats of Stuart Semple's Black 4.0. This unique acrylic paint is one of the darkest paints currently available - surfaces painted with it will reportedly absorb over 99% of visible light.
The sculpture itself depicts a raven with antlers, and is otherwise nearly featureless to emphasize its silhouette. As you can see in the close-up pictures and by looking at the antlers, the surface is coarse, unsmoothed paper mache and clay. You can choose whether you want the edge of the stand to have a subtle antique brass paint effect, or whether you want the entire sculpture to truly be all black.
Do note that in real life, the "black hole" effect can be less pronounced than in photos, especially in bright light where the surface is still a very deep matte black, but more features come out; however, placing the sculpture in more subdued lighting brings this effect out again.
Also note that to preserve the blackness of the paint, this sculpture has been left unvarnished and should be handled carefully and as little as possible due to the delicate surface. Dusting it with a soft brush is completely fine however. While the paint and other materials used are all non-toxic, the sculpture should also be kept out of reach of children!
