Full description
A colourful brooch in gorgeous warm autumnal colours with a unique handmade leaf design. A thread wrapped brooch using the traditional Dorset button technique. The cotton embroidery threads are tied around a wooden ring and then the centre leaf design is added. This brooch is further decorated with maple leaf ribbon and two orange faceted glass drop beads for a little sparkle. A light weight brooch which will look beautiful on a winter jumper, scarf or coat and a unisex design. Size approx 2 inch round (52 mm) x 3 inch drop (70mm) approx.
A Dorset button is a style of heritage craft-made button that originating in the English county of Dorset. Originally made in the homes of Dorset farm works, generally by the women, as piece work in the evenings after labouring on the land etc during the day, as a way to supplement their income. They were used on clothing when the fashions no longer wanted to use a tie up type closure and wanted something more secure. These sort of buttons peaked between 1622 and 1850, after which they were overtaken by machine-made buttons.
