The journey to creating the Orbit mobile began with my long-standing fascination with kinetic art, particularly the mobiles of Alexander Calder. As a child, I remember being mesmerized by the way his creations seemed to defy gravity, effortlessly dancing in the air. That sense of movement and balance stuck with me throughout my life.

Years later, while working with various materials in my woodworking studio, I was inspired to merge my love for woodworking with modern materials like dichroic acrylic, which changes color depending on how the light hits it. This combination of natural wood and iridescent acrylic perfectly captured the mid-century modern aesthetic I admired. The contrast between the warm birch plywood and the shimmering, colour-changing acrylic seemed to bring the piece to life.

I wanted to create something that was not only visually stunning but also adaptable for any space—whether it be a home office, a living room, or even a nursery.
