Full description
Unique hanging garlic basket, handmade by Basketweaver Anna Liebmann from natural willow. Alternatively, the basket is ideal for feeding fat balls to birds in the garden.
Willow is a natural and renewable resource, capturing carbon and being cut every winter once the leaves have fallen, then graded for use in basketry. Most or all of the willow in the platter will be grown in Scotland, with some parts being made from Somerset (English) willow. Each basket will be unique in the colours used.
Size approx 4.5 inches (11cm) by 14 inches (35cm).
Handmade by Basketweaver Anna Liebmann.
I make functional baskets and teach traditional basketry in Edinburgh and beyond. I make these platters in my workshop overlooking the sea. The willow is soaked in water for nearly a week to become pliable, left to mellow for another day, then it is ready to weave. I use a former to hold the stakes in place whilst weaving, then removing it to weave the border and add the handle.
