OK I know this is unusual but Martin who runs the Home to Garden business opposite me buys used Whisky Barrels from distilleries in Scotland, cuts them in half to makes planters! I asked him if he had any 'spare' staves and yippee!

The barrels originate in the USA and often have Jim Beam or some other Bourbon stamped on the side. Scottish Distilleries buy these to mature their whisky for a minimum of 3 years and 1 day but often more than 12 years. Then Martin turns up to buy them...empty of course!

There are 31 staves in a Whisky barrel and many different sizes with only a few wide enough to use as a pot hanger...so this is a rare item, very hard to work with and I get black taking off even the surface charcoal from the inside stave.

But what a story to tell as you sip your dram!

Made in my workshop here in Derbyshire.
They are approximately 450mm long, various widths and 20mm or more thick, coated with OSMO UV resistant oil to protect you more than them. No two pieces are the same.

The rope, 1 metre long and folded, tied and ends sealed is designed and made for exterior use with synthetic materials but looking like traditional sisal without ever rotting!

Lipped Terracotta pots of many sizes (not supplied) fit really well. The photos show 150mm wide flowerpots or whatever size that you are happy with.
