Mocha diffusion is a technique that produces interesting and organic patterns. The coasters were cut out from a slab of clay and then coated in white slip. Slip is just liquid clay which is an alkali substance. A 'mocha tea' is made by mixing a stain or colouring agent with an acidic solution such as vinegar or ethanol. This solution is then carefully dripped onto the wet slip and the resulting chemical reaction produces these interesting patterns. Fun to watch the pattern emerging.
