Queensland Boulder Opals has a fascinating history , saleable precious Opals were first obtained from mines near Listowel Downs Station around 1870 , A Jeweler from Toowoomba named Herbert Bond played an important role in developing the early Opal industry in Queensland. In 1875 a series of deposits where discovered in Kyabra Hills in south West Queensland and attracted Mr Bonds attention.Also another Pioneer Tully Cornwaith Wallaston an Adelaide Gem dealer also contributed considerably , he travelled to Central Queensland feilds in the summer of 1889 and is Often considered the Father of the Australian Opal industry. Queensland's Opal feilds are extensively covered by Opal bearing Sandstone formation of upper Cretaceous age with more than 300 000 km of land available for exploration & potential mining ,due to the specific Geological Formation Boulder Opals are scarcer than other opal varieties, requiring skilled miners in harsh conditions to mine & bring them to market
