Australian Boulder Opal story begins with Johanes Menge a mineralogist who explored for minerals in south Australia he discovered precious Opal at Angaston in Barrossa Valley in 1841 ,the focus shifted to Queensland where Opal was found at Listowel station in 1869, Tully Cornwaith a key figure traded and marketed Australian boulder opal in London in 1890.
Australian boulder opal forms in various shapes and patterns adding elements of play of colour , pinfire ,flag patterns & many more amazing patterns that change in different light angles to different vivid colours that make it unique to collectors and wearers,it makes up less than 5 % of Opal mined in Australia, it is sparcley disturbed through Queensland including areas like Jundah, Yowah, Winton, & Quilpie in summary Australian boulder opal is a true Gem of rarity prized for its beauty & mesmerising patterns & colour.
Remember that each Boulder Opal is unique with variations of pattern colour & shape .
