Full description

This stained glass panel incorporates a fused glass insert of a cheerful yellow sunflower, set inside a border of transparent green art glass. I made the fused glass insert first, choosing a soft streaky yellow for the petals, textured golden brown for the centre, and transparent dark green for the leaves, and for a fun element, I added a tiny ladybird atop one of the petals. The third image shows the glass laid out prior to kiln-firing. I chose a contrasting transparent green glass for the border and then constructed the panel using traditional leaded stained glass techniques, which have changed very little over the centuries. The lead frame was cut to size, soldered, and then cemented, black-leaded and finally polished.

The panel measures 27.5 x 24.5cm approx. It looks lovely displayed on a windowsill, or somewhere the light can catch it.

Note: The lead frame is perfectly safe to handle, as long as it is not ingested, but please wash hands after handling.
