When my twin granddaughters were born, I thought it would be a lovely idea to start a collection of vintage children’s books I would present to them when they reached eighteen. I duly started haunting antique markets and auction sites, collecting beautifully illustrated books going back to the 1800s. I regret to say I fell head over heels in love with the wonderful paintings and drawings I was discovering. Naturally, I loved the girls enormously, too, but over the years, we came to a mutually agreeable arrangement whereby I kept the books, they received money to buy what they wanted, and we were all very happy!
