The colours of the resin that hold the wood wedges compliments the dark green glass of the fishing float.

Full description

This stunning and unusual wood table lamp has a vintage Victorian glass fishing float. I have hand crafted the base to have 3 tiers made from random shaped wood wedges cast into green resin, then turned to shape on my lathe. Each of my lamps is a one-off design, and is truly unique - not another like it in the world.

The funky glass float was discovered half buried while I was weeding in the garden of Clairdale, our 300 year old crofters cottage on the island of Sanday, Orkney, and was used by the Victorian crofters that once lived here. This float carries the North Star symbol with "British Made" set around it, dating it's manufacture and use at between 1840 and 1910, making it between 110 and 180 years old. The glass floats were tied into the tops of fishing nets to keep them hanging vertically in the water, with stone weights attached to the bottom as ballast. Genuine vintage glass fishing floats carry all the chips, scuffs, scratches and patina you would expect from a hard life at sea, as this float has.

This decorative table lamp has a cork base to protect your table tops. I've used a string of LED micro-lights to illuminate the glass from within. Powered by three AA batteries (not supplied), the battery box has multiple flashing modes, as well as steady on, and switches off automatically after 6 hours. This lamp is NOT designed for outdoor use. 220mm wide, 210mm high.
