ater and nature have always been a source of calm for me, growing up on the Northumberland coastline I spent much of my childhood by the sea. As a result, the coast has always been a calming influence on my life, I find I only have to set eyes on it and if feel my soul reset itself and feel I can breathe again. For this painting, I’ve worked with a varied colour palette using a wet-on-wet technique with lots of water to create patterns and marks. I like to paint standing and move the paper around using movement and gravity to further aid the patterns created. The addition of salt provides wonderful effects within the paint, never being entirely sure what the result will be is part of the magic of this process.
